FAQ

Is Gridleaf free to use?

Every account gets 1,000 free credits on signup — no credit card required. That's enough for ~1,000 basic queries or 40 full site assessments. After that, credit packs start at $9 for 300 credits. See our Pricing page for details.

Do I need to sign up?

Yes. Sign up at gridleaf.org/auth/signup to create your free account and get an API key. The API key authenticates your requests and tracks your credit usage.

How do credits work?

Each tool costs a set number of credits per call. Simple lookups (carbon ranking, flood zone checks) cost 0-1 credits. Complex analyses (full site assessments, BESS backtests) cost up to 25 credits. You can see the credit cost of each tool on the Tools page.

Is my data private?

Gridleaf queries public data sources (ISO feeds, EIA, FEMA, NREL, etc.) on your behalf. We do not store your queries or results. Your API key usage is tracked for billing only.

What platforms are supported?

Gridleaf works with any MCP-compatible AI assistant, including:

  • Claude Code (CLI)
  • Claude Desktop
  • Claude.ai (web)
  • Cursor
  • Windsurf

See the Installation guide for setup instructions.

Can I request a new tool?

Absolutely! We're always expanding based on user needs. Email us at hello@gridleaf.org with your tool suggestion.

Who built this?

Gridleaf is built by Gridleaf, an energy technology company focused on making grid data more accessible. We work with utilities, grid operators, solar developers, and energy companies across the US and India.

What data sources do you use?

Gridleaf tools aggregate data from official sources including:

  • ISO market feeds: CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, NYISO, SPP, ISO-NE (all 7 US ISOs)
  • EIA Open Data API: Generation, demand, interchange, prices, emissions
  • FEMA NFHL: Flood zone and floodplain data
  • USFWS: Critical habitat and species data
  • NWI: National Wetlands Inventory
  • EPA: Contaminated sites (FRS) and eGRID emissions
  • NREL: Solar resource and PVWatts estimates
  • LightBox: Parcel boundaries, zoning, and land use
  • HIFLD: Utility infrastructure (substations, transmission lines)
  • gridstatus: Interconnection queue data

How current is the data?

It depends on the tool and data source:

  • LMP prices: Real-time, updates every 5 minutes
  • Carbon intensity: Real-time, updates every 5 minutes
  • EIA data: Varies by series (hourly demand to annual summaries)
  • Flood and environmental data: Updated as agencies publish
  • Interconnection queues: Updated daily
